Packaging closure and recycling compatibility guide
Treat the closure as a sealing and dispensing system that must fit the exact container, product, line and end-of-life assessment.
Closures often contain more than the visible shell. Liners, valves, gaskets, springs, dip tubes, tamper bands and overcaps can be essential to performance and can also affect the complete-pack material assessment. A nominal diameter does not prove fit or seal.

Product compatibility
The product may contact the liner, gasket, valve and dip tube as well as the container. Provide formulation information, SDS where relevant, contact time, storage range and orientation. Compatibility should be confirmed for the exact closure components; a shell polymer alone is not enough.
Complete-pack recyclability
Record every material within the closure and whether the closure remains attached, is separated by the user, or follows the container through sorting. Pumps and triggers can contain mixed materials and metal springs. The correct disposal wording depends on current collection and assessment guidance, not on an assumption that all small plastic components behave the same.
Capping and line trials
- Use representative bottles and production closures from the intended supply route.
- Set application parameters against an agreed closure specification.
- Measure opening or removal performance after an appropriate dwell.
- Check leakage under storage, inversion and distribution conditions.
- Inspect tamper features and dispensing consistency.
- Repeat after material, liner, bottle or equipment changes.
Control supplier, mould and liner changes
Record the approved closure reference, drawing revision, cavity or mould information where available, liner construction, colour and manufacturing site. A visually identical substitute can have different thread tolerances, sealing compression, resin behaviour or opening performance. Purchasing substitutions should therefore be reviewed against the approved bottle and product, with affected torque, leakage, dispensing and tamper-evidence tests repeated.
Will any 28 mm closure fit a 28 mm bottle?
No. Thread form, height, sealing land, tamper ring and tolerances must match.
Can a pump be described by its outer plastic only?
No. The complete pump may include several plastics, elastomers and metal components. Use a full construction declaration.
Should a closure be tested before changing bottle supplier?
Yes. Even when the nominal neck finish is unchanged, tolerances and surface details can affect fit, torque and seal.
