Closure approval guide

Confirm fit, seal and tamper evidence for the exact bottle neck.

This product is described as a 28 mm MCA tamper-evident screw cap available in red, green, gold, blue, black and white. The existing compatibility warning is important: nominal diameter does not make it suitable for every 28 mm bottle. Final approval must use the intended bottle neck and the exact cap variant.

Fit, seal and tamper-band engagement

Obtain the neck-finish drawing for the bottle and the closure drawing or supplier specification. Check thread starts, sealing surface, cap height, tamper-band position and the feature that retains the band on the bottle. Trials should verify smooth application, no cross-threading, correct seating, seal performance, torque retention and clear evidence after first opening.

Cap application on the production line

State whether caps will be placed manually or fed and applied automatically. Automatic capping may require cap dimensions, orientation, hopper and chute behaviour, chuck or spindle details and an agreed torque method. Record bottle restraint and line speed during the accepted trial. A quoted output is meaningful only with the bottle, cap, product and test conditions identified.

Product-contact system

Review the cap material and any liner, seal or induction foil against the product, fill temperature, headspace and shelf-life target. Leakage and opening tests should reflect storage and transport conditions.

Component evidence

Any material, recycled-content or recyclability statement should cover the exact cap colour and construction. Keep the cap evidence separate from the bottle evidence, then assess the assembled pack including the tamper band, liner, label and residue.

Buyer questions

What does MCA mean for compatibility?

MCA identifies a closure and neck-finish family, but the exact bottle finish, thread, sealing surface and tamper-band geometry still need to match. Use the bottle and cap drawings or samples together.

Will the cap fit any 28 mm bottle?

No. The page specifically warns that compatibility should be confirmed and identifies compatible 28 mm neck Mountain bottles as the default context. Do not approve another bottle from nominal diameter alone.

How is tamper evidence checked?

Apply the cap under controlled capping conditions, confirm band engagement and bridges, then check opening behaviour and visible evidence after first opening. Acceptance should be agreed for the intended bottle and line.

Which torque should be used?

The correct application and removal torque depends on the bottle finish, cap, liner or seal, product and supplier specification. It should be established through controlled trials rather than assumed from size.

Do colour options change the environmental assessment?

Colour is one attribute of the exact closure. The material, pigment, tamper band, liner and any other components should be included in the supplier declaration and end-of-life review.

What samples are required?

Provide the intended bottle, cap colour, product or safe equivalent, any liner or foil, and enough components for cap feeding, application, leakage and opening trials.

Extended approval checks

Match the 28mm tamper-evident cap to the exact bottle finish and line.

The 28mm description and tamper-evident feature do not, by themselves, prove neck compatibility, seal, bridge breakage, opening force or line application. Confirm the bottle drawing, cap specification and filled-pack performance together.

Can any 28mm neck be used?

No. Match the full finish, thread or engagement, tamper bead, sealing surface, height and any liner. See the neck and cap guide.

What proves the tamper feature?

Representative capped bottles must show consistent application, intact presentation and the intended first-opening indication. Use the tamper-evident selection guide.
