Is a matching nominal neck diameter enough to choose a cap?
No. Two components can share a nominal diameter and still have different thread, height, sealing or tamper-evident features. Use the controlled bottle and closure drawings, then confirm fit with production samples.
Do not use a catalogue name such as “28 mm cap” as the only purchasing specification. The exact finish and closure family must match.
Which neck and closure features create the seal?
The seal may be created by a liner, plug, bore seal, cone, gasket or another designed interface. That interface depends on the bottle’s land, bore, top surface and tolerances. The thread or snap feature provides retention but may not be the primary seal.
Identify the mechanism and inspect the mating surfaces for damage, contamination or dimensional change.
What affects cap application torque and removal torque?
Torque depends on the bottle finish, closure design, liner, material friction, tamper band, capping head, application speed, time after application and storage conditions. Application and removal torque are related but not interchangeable.
Set an application window from validated pack performance and equipment capability. Do not publish or copy a generic figure without product-specific evidence.
How are tamper-evident bands and liners checked?
Check that the band engages the intended bottle feature, applies without damage and breaks or separates as designed when opened. Confirm liner position, compression or contact pattern and leak performance with the actual product where relevant.
